The Directors

English Country Schools is a summer school organisation, now in its twentieth year, owned and run by Christopher and Sarah Etchells (photo above). Christopher has worked abroad for The British Council, holds a BA Honours Degree in English and the Royal Society of Arts Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Sarah is an experienced teacher and a qualified Nutritionist. They have three children. 

The Etchells live on the junior course (Port Regis, for 7 - 14 year olds) during the summer to enhance the family atmosphere and oversee its smooth operation. Particular attention is paid to safety: for example no child is allowed out of school grounds or near the swimming pool without a member of staff being present.

The Teachers

Staff are carefully chosen for  their experience and qualifications in working with young learners and a warm and responsible attitude. There is one member of staff per eight students. On each course there is a non-teaching Director of Studies to oversee the teaching team, a Recreation Programme Organiser to oversee sports, excursions and social activities and a Welfare Officer in charge of welfare, medical and domestic arrangements. Regular meetings are held between all staff to share information and ensure that each child makes the best possible academic and social progress.
