THE STUDENTS come from many different countries, with a maximum of 90 on each course. Students of all races and religions are welcome. English is the common medium of communication. Friendship, care and understanding grow between young people from different countries and cultures. About 50% of students are returnees. They are well-motivated and fun, typically attending international schools in their own countries. A maximum of 5 boys and 5 girls are accepted who share the same mother tongue. This ensures that English is the main medium of communication on the course but with all the advantages of a well-supervised residential programme. After they leave many students remain in contact and continue to practise their English with the friends they made at the school. ECS Friends is a private section of the Countryschool web site to facilitate this. Some students who are too old to return and have shown exemplary behaviour are invited to return free of charge as Student Helpers. This provides an opportunity for them to continue improving their English and gain valuable work experience in a familiar and secure environment. Student Helpers provide a valuable bridge between students and staff on the courses.
